GPS-Unit für Polar RS800 in 2007?

Liebe Foris, Experten und Freunde der elektronischen Laufspielsachen!

Habe gerade in der Yahoo-Group http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/polar-rs_sd_x/

aufgeschnappt, dass für die RS800 eine GPS-Unit im Frühjahr 2007 kommen soll. Der Hinweis ist ursprünglich einem Dänischen Polar-Forum entnommen, den Polar Dänemark (angeblich) bestätigt haben soll.

Weiß jemand da was darüber? Ist das eine "Zeitungsente" oder vielleicht doch was Wahres dran? Polar hat sich ja politisch ziemlich eindeutig auf die Accelerometer festgelegt, wäre ja ein ziemlicher Hammer (und etwas peinlich), wenn die auch auf GPS-Technologie umsteigen würden. Sinn machen würde es jedenfalls, denke ich! Der SIRFIII-Chip der neuen FR-Serie ist einfach Klasse!

Ich habe nichts dergleichen gehört, obwohl ich mich in den beiden vergangenen Wochen näher mit dem RS800 beschäftigt habe.

Wenn Du mich fragst vermute ich eher, dass es eine Zeitungsente à la "stille Post" ist...

Nun sind wir schon zu dritt...

...oder es ist ne Ente, weil es so nach Suunto klingt. Nichts desto trotz werd ich bei dem Pod bleiben. Und warte mal ganz ruhig ab, was Galileo an Verbesserung bringen wird (wenn wirklich besser).
Sollte ich schwach werden und mir das GPS-Pod schenken lassen, bin ich mir fast schon sicher, dies sehr bald als Fehlkauf einzuordnen ... aber Spielzeuge sind dies ja meistens :-))

will get an GPS unit at the beginning of 2007, is there any truth to
this rumour? If so, when will the GPS unit be available, and what
functions will it add to the functions already available for the RS800SD?'

Which got me the following answer:

'Dear Customer,

Thank you for your email sent to the Polar Global Customer Support. We
can confirm that a GPS speed and distance module, compatible with
RS800 and RS800sd, will be launched during the 2nd half of 2007. The
addition of the GPS module will bring added functionality across
multiple sports including: cycling, adventure racing, rowing, sailing,
skiiing (downhill and cross country) and inline skating. You can
expect an official announcement early 2007 so please check back to our
website (http://www.polar.fi) for more information then.

So a GPS unit seems to be definitely coming, what added functionality
precisely it will bring is however unsure. As there is no mention of
running in the 'multiple sports' I am afraid it will just provide
speed and distance measurement, and will not add anything to the
functionality of the current speed sensor. Will have to wait and see
until next year.
